For questions (1) - (5): Use the following information.
The depletion of the earth’s ozone layer is due primarily to the fusion of carbon monoxide gases and global warming. As the earth’s average temperature increases annually, the heat splits carbon dioxide molecules into two, leaving several singular carbon and oxygen molecules floating about in the atmosphere. When one carbon molecule meets one oxygen molecule, the effect is the production of carbon monoxide, a gas which, in turn, depletes the protective layer of ozone surrounding the earth’s atmosphere.
The destruction of the ozone layer has significant immediate and long-term effects. As solar rays are able to penetrate the holes created in the protective ozone layer, levels of evaporation in the earth’s ocean begin to increase gradually. In time, our oceans could be deprived of all water, leaving behind arid wastelands akin to the Grand Canyon.
Therefore, to minimize the destruction of the earth’s ozone layer , we must decrease our carbon dioxide emissions.
